Scholarship Campaign
Coach Gary Williams is a true campus citizen. In addition to his professional responsibilities as head coach, Gary volunteers his time to make the University of Maryland a better and stronger place. He currently serves as co-chair of the University's scholarship campaign to raise more than $350 million for scholarships and student support. His fellow alumni and co-chairs, broadcasting legend Connie Chung and entrepreneur Buno Pati, work together to encourage alumni and friends to make a difference.
Gary is a big believer in scholarships, having benefited from one himself during his years as a student. Moreover, he sees the impact of scholarships on his students, as well as others at Maryland, as they have the opportunity to pursue college education. He feels so strongly about scholarships that has endowed two of them: one in the Smith School of Business and one in Athletics.
When it's not basketball season, Gary travels around the country meeting with alumni and friends of the University. He always gives them insight into the basketball program, but they come away impressed by his commitment to the University as a whole and to his desire to help make sure that future generations have the same chance to go to college that he had.
